Engaging & sharable “socialized” healthcare tips
St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pa., was looking for a way to better engage current and prospective patients about its outpatient services and community education efforts. The hospital sought to go beyond its active Facebook followers and frequent website visitors to proactively engage key audiences.
Kimball Hughes Public Relations proposed leveraging both the hospital’s established social media following and its engaged offline patient community with technology that appealed to both. Making the most of the hospital’s assets, Kimball Hughes and St. Joseph launched a Google+ Hangouts on Air broadcast about Seasonal Flu live via the web.
By testing the technology, developing the content to promote the event on social media and managing the live event, St. Joseph offered a first-in-the-region healthcare event using Google+ Hangouts on Air. The live web broadcast provided health information, tips and even live questions from viewers.
The recording of the Live Hangout garnered more than 100 views on YouTube in a 72-hour period. At the same time, Kimball Hughes Public Relations helped St. Joseph Medical Center launch a new and dynamic social platform that has also yielded ancillary content for the hospital’s website, Facebook page and dedicated YouTube Channel.
